Tucked away on Cockermouth's Main Street, our café is where the Dosa Chaska story comes to life — a warm, welcoming spot serving proper South Indian vegetarian food, made fresh every single day.
We're not a takeaway trying to be healthy. We're a kitchen built entirely around real, whole ingredients — rice, lentils, whole spices, and thousands of years of Ayurvedic wisdom — served at the speed of your lunch break. No emulsifiers, no modified starches, no artificial colours. Just naturally fermented dosa batter, slow-cooked curries, and a proper cup of masala chai.
Whether you're popping in for a quick lunch, treating yourself to a Sunday brunch, or discovering Indian vegetarian food for the very first time, you'll always get a warm Cumbrian welcome and food that's made with genuine care.
Freshly Made Street Style Pancake Rolls— Our signature crispy, savoury pancakes, made from rice and lentils fermented for 8–12 hours (a bit like sourdough, but for dosa). Naturally vegan and gluten-free, and available in 20+ varieties — from the classic Masala Dosa to local twists like our award-winning Veggie Sausage Rolls.
Proper Chai & Coffee — Authentic Masala Chai brewed with 10+ herbs and spices, South Indian filter coffee, and cooling Saffron Mango Lassi. We serve the usual hot drinks too, for anyone not quite ready to go full spice.
Chaat & Street Food — Every so often we bring Mumbai and Delhi's street food scene to Main Street with limited-edition chaat experiences — think pani puri, bonda dosa and all the tang, crunch and spice of proper Indian street eating.
Slow-Cooked Curries (frozen for takeaway)— Small-batch daals and curries, simmered the traditional way, packed with whole-food nutrition and nothing you can't pronounce.
Every dish at Dosa Chaska draws on Ayurvedic principles — food as medicine, balance over excess, and ingredients your body actually recognises. Fermentation supports gut health and nutrient absorption; whole spices like turmeric, cumin and coriander aren't just for flavour, they're part of a food tradition thousands of years old.
We've simply brought that tradition to a Cumbrian high street, using local dairy and vegetables wherever we can, and serving it up at a pace that fits into a proper working day.
Our Cockermouth café isn't just a place to eat — it's also a collection point for the rest of what we do:
